Vision & Approach
Identity, context, materiality, and an evocative poetic spirit are essential to Nathaniel’s design philosophy.
His approach always begins by listening to a client’s goals. Another form of listening which takes place is careful observation of the site and existing conditions. Successful architectural visions are produced by merging function and beauty; manifesting a vision from the combination of the many factors unique to each situation.
Nathaniel offers a new way of looking at design through the unity of inside and out, human and environment. Design decisions are informed by ecological, social, and economic principles. Designing for energy performance and with respect to ecology and both human and non-human actors is considered fundamentally crucial to providing a future that fosters life.
The value of his services is fortified by being a critical thinker and researcher during all stages of a project from initial site investigations and feasibility studies, all the way through the design process, project management, construction administration, and post-occupancy follow-up. His well-rounded background includes hands-on experience with construction, making elegant details possible and practical.
No project is too large or too small. He is equipped to take on projects ranging from planning and design of entire urban or rural districts to custom homes, furnishings, and details.
